Alrighty! Hey, how's it going? This is the obligatory New Year post. It will include a rundown of the goings-on of 2011 and a view of things that will hopefully be happening in the next year.
So, I am pretty sure I did a rundown of the first half of the year. The latter half has been pretty much uneventful. Just Beren and I settling into our new home and fixing things that the household-repair-challenged previous owners did. Let me just give you a brief list of how they screwed things up.
1. The laundry room used to be in the garage, as far as I know. But somewhere between 1968 and 2009, someone who lived here decided, no, we must build a new laundry room and put it on the back of the house. That's cool, I can understand that, seeing as how there is no door from the inside of the house to the garage, so it would be kind of a bitch to carry loads of laundry all the way around the house. So, an addition was built behind the house, right off the kitchen. Now, there are several things wrong with this. The first one we noticed when we were purchasing the house is that they had completely gutted the laundry room at some point because of a tiny leak in the roof that they let go. The leak never got fixed, by the way. It has fallen to us to fix it. That's okay, I can do that. The floor is rotting out because of many years of....neglect? I can only assume that's what caused them to just disregard a leak. These people were geniuses by the way. In order to save money (I'm assuming), they used a 30 inch closet door as the back door to the laundry room. And they put it on the wrong way, too. I'm getting mad just thinking about it. What it comes down to is that we are basically going to have to rip off our laundry room and build it again, correctly. In the meantime, it is a doghouse.
2. All of the doors in our house, at one point or another, have been kicked in. None of the knobs worked when we moved in. So that's disturbing.
3. My kitchen. this is the saddest part, for me. The tile is awful. Aside from being put in badly, it is ugly. It always looks dirty. The sink is stupid and the faucet isn't even secured. Ugh. I can't even type any more. It just makes me mad.
4. The sink in our guest bathroom does not work, neither does the shower in our master bathroom. Ugh.
5. And this is the crowning point: Three of the electrical outlets in my kitchen are not wired directly into the house. Oh no. They are basically a large outlet strip that has a cord plugged into another outlet in the laundry room. Oh yes. One room in my house is plugged into another room.
But hey, it's home!
In other news, our total critter count (including fish) is 29. That is: 3 dogs, 6 cats, 3 rats, 3 cockatiels, 2 parakeets, 1 conure, 2 guinea pigs and 9 fish. Somehow we make it all work....sometimes.
Okay, this might officially be the most boring post, ever. Ugh. Up next: Things that piss me off. An ongoing series of posts related to things that just really, really bother me. Is that too over done? Should I post about things that make me happy, like unicorns and rainbows? I don't even know that anyone reads this. Huh.
